Ceremonial Dance, Mitama Matsuri

Yasukuni Shrine, Tokyo

Four boys dressed as mythical karyobin birds perform the Childrens Dance of the Left. The dancers dance anti-clockwise while sounding copper "do-byoshi" cymbals to music based on Indian traditional music.

Legend has it that the karyobin (garuda) birds flew down from heaven and danced on the day of Jeta's temple mass for the dead. The god of music who was impressed by the birds' flying and dancing, composed the music of the dance.
